- Where can I purchase a Bonfire Prepaid Gift Card at a retailer?

Bonfire Prepaid Gift Mastercard cards are available at participating New World, Pak'nSave, Four Square, and selected convenience stores nationwide.
Use our online store locator to find your nearest retailer. Please nore, Bonfire gift cards are currently available for purchase only in New Zealand. They can be used for most online purchases and almost anywhere overseas that Mastercard is accepted.
- What do I have to do before I can use my Bonfire Prepaid Gift Card?

Good news. Your card is already activated and ready to use. Just sign the signature strip on the back before spending.Purchased online?
You will need to activate your card first. Click here to activate it and create an account so you can view your balance anytime. - How much can I load onto my Bonfire Prepaid Gift Card?

Bonfire gift cards can be loaded with any amount between $25 and $1,000, in $1 increments, so you can choose the value that suits your needs.*
When purchasing online, you can order up to 40 cards per transaction. Each card can be loaded between $25 and $1,000, with a maximum total load value of $4,000 per order, excluding fees.
When purchasing in store, you can buy up to 5 cards per transaction, with a combined maximum load value of $1,000, excluding fees.

- Where can I use my Bonfire Prepaid Gift Card?
Your Bonfire Gift Card can be used in store or online, anywhere Mastercard is accepted, with a few exceptions. Note, Some retailers may also place limits on prepaid card usage. -
It cannot be used:

At ATMs or for cash withdrawals

For direct debits or recurring payments

At pay-at-pump fuel services

For gambling services

With manual imprinters (click-clack machines)

At any merchant that chooses not to accept prepaid gift cards

At merchants identified as conducting potentially fraudulent transaction

- Does my Bonfire Prepaid Gift Card expire?

Yes; the expiration date for your bonfire gift card is displayed on the front of the card. Bonfire gift cards expire at midnight on the last day of the expiry month displayed. After expiry, your bonfire gift card will no longer be usable.

My card was delcined. What happened?
If your transaction was declined, it could be for one of the reasons above. Other common reasons include:

There isn’t enough balance on the card to cover the full purchase amount, including any applicable transaction fees

The merchant does not accept prepaid or gift cards
We recommend checking your available balance before trying again. If you’re unsure whether a merchant accepts prepaid cards, please contact them directly.

What buttons do I use in-store at checkout to make a purchase? -

When making a payment in-store, simply swipe your Bonfire card, select ‘Credit’ and enter your PIN found under the scratch panel on the back of the card to complete the purchase. Note that selecting Savings or Cheque will cause transactions to decline.
- Can I withdraw cash from my Bonfire Prepaid Gift Card?

No. Bonfire gift cards cannot be used to withdraw cash from ATMs or to receive cash out at any merchant. This is standard practice for most prepaid and gift card providers, as these cards are designed for purchases only, either in store or online.
- Can I use my Bonfire Prepaid Gift Card for services like Netflix, Spotify, or Uber?

Generally, no.
Bonfire Gift Cards cannot be used for recurring payments or subscription services. This includes platforms like Netflix, Spotify, Uber, and other services that automatically charge your card on an ongoing basis.
This is standard for most prepaid and gift card providers, as gift cards are designed for one-off purchases rather than ongoing billing arrangements.
If you’re unsure whether a service accepts prepaid cards, we recommend checking directly with the provider before making a purchase.
- What happens if my Bonfire Prepaid Gift Card is lost?

If your card is lost, you can block it quickly and easily by logging into your Bonfire account*, selecting the card, and following the prompts to block it. Once blocked, all transactions on that card will be declined.
If you happen to find your card later, you can log back in and unblock it the same way to continue using it.
*Please note, You must have registered your Bonfire gift card before it was lost to use this feature.
As with most prepaid gift cards, balance transfers or replacement cards are not available for lost or stolen cards.

- What are card authorisations?

Card authorisations, or “hold” transactions, happen when a merchant temporarily reserves a portion of your card balance, often at hotels, car rentals, or similar services. The reserved amount is usually refunded in full or in part later.
Because your Bonfire Gift Card is a prepaid gift card, it cannot be used for these types of transactions. This is standard for most gift cards, which are designed for one-off purchases rather than temporary holds.

What is an Activation Code?-
An activation code is set on bonfire gift cards ordered online and will be sent to the nominated email address at the time of purchase. This code is used to activate the card to enable purchases. To activate your bonfire gift card please click here and enter your activation code when prompted. If gifting a bonfire gift card, please make sure you share the activation code with the gift recipient.
When will I receive my Bonfire gift card?-
Bonfire gift cards ordered online come with an activation code, which is sent to the email address you provide at the time of purchase. This code is required to activate your card before it can be used for purchases.
To activate your card, simply click here and enter your activation code when prompted.
If you’re giving a Bonfire gift card to someone else, be sure to share the activation code with the recipient so they can start using the card right away.
Activation codes are a standard security feature used by most prepaid and gift card providers to ensure your card is ready and safe for use.
- What happens if I order a Bonfire gift card online and it has been damaged?

If your gift card is damaged, not working, and hasn’t been activated, you can contact us here for instructions on how to return it and get assistance.

- How secure are my credit card details when purchasing a Bonfire gift card?

Bonfire uses industry-standard 256-bit TLS encryption to keep all your interactions secure. When purchasing a gift card, your credit card details are never seen by us. They are sent directly to our PCI DSS-certified payment partner for safe processing.
